Starting a skincare routine may seem overwhelming, especially if you are a beginner. After all, there are so many products that you may hear about the first time. So, it is understandable if you don’t know what to buy for your skin care. But don’t worry, you are not alone. Not many know how simple and effective a skincare routine is. Below are simple steps that you can follow up (and change if necessary) to get healthy and glowing skin.

Step 1 – Cleanser

The general rule is to that cleanse your face 2 times a day. This will help you to get rid of sweat, dirt, and other impurities. Do once in the morning and the evening. Experts suggest that beginners start with a hydrating cleanser with no fragrance. It is better to choose a product with very minimal ingredients to avoid skin irritation. Also, beginners can choose cleansers with glycerine and ceramides, which maintain the skin barrier.

Step 2 – Moisturizer

Whether sensitive or acne-prone skin, beginners are recommended to go for the one that has no fragrance or oil. These products are acceptable to all skin types. This is a basic step. But if you want to address a specific skin issue, you can look for a moisturizer that helps. Some of the effective components that you can choose are:

  • Ceramides–good for eczema and dry skin. Increases skin barrier strength.
  • Hyaluronic acid–retains skin’s water content.
  • Vitamin C – brightens skin with antioxidant protection.

Some reason that they don’t need a moisturizer because they have oily or acne-prone skin. Remember, without proper hydration; the skin can either get irritated or overproduce oils. To put it simply, all types of skin need moisture, and moisturizer is a must. But if you don’t want to clog the pores, you can choose a lightweight moisturizer. But don’t skip this step.

Step 3 – Sunscreen

Sun is good for plants. But not for your skin. The harmful UV rays can cause irreversible damages to the skin. In some cases, these rays cause skin cancer. This is a step that you cannot take lightly. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or above.

Again, if you don’t want greasy or heavy sunscreens, you can choose lightweight ones. Even if it’s a cloudy day, don’t forget to wear sunscreen.

Customize your skincare routine with extra steps

The above 3 steps are the basic of basics. If you want to level up your regime, you can add more products. For example, you can do exfoliation 1 or 2 times a week. This ensures a complete cleanup of the skin’s surface. Since they are 2 types of exfoliation – physical and chemical, you can choose according to your skin type.

Another product that you can add is facial serums. They are full of active ingredients that aides in tackling a specific skin problem. Use serums before moisturizers if you are planning to add to your routine.

The general practice is to use products with thin consistency first. Then, thick consistency products get applied over the top.

Wrapping up

Starting a skincare routine may look complicated. But it’s really not that hard. Could you stick to the basics and do it regularly? Once you know what to do, you can start experimenting with other products in the market.
