History
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary was founded at Longueuil, Canada, on October 28, 1843, by Mother Marie Rose, more popularly known as “Rose of Canada”. The institute which was established under the jurisdiction of Bishop Ignace Bourget of Montreal, and under the direction of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, was canonically approved by the holy See on September 4, 1877. The Community consists of Choir Sisters, who teach and do manual work, and Auxiliary Sisters who tend the household duties. Both take the same simple vows and share the same spiritual advantages.

Purpose
The chief aim of the Congregation, after the personal sanctification of its members, is the instruction and Christian education of children. 

Training
After the six-month postulancy, the candidate begins her eighteen months of novitiate. Temporary vows are then made for three years. Twice she renews her vows before profession of perpetual vows. During this time, the sisters continue their spiritual formation while taking courses toward their academic degrees.

Qualifications
• Completion of high school.
• Age: 15 to 30.

Habit
The sisters wear a simple black habit with a pleated dress, a cape, and a bandeau.
