History
The congregation of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus was founded in 1844 by Mother Clare Frey. Born in Aix-la-Chapelle, Germany in 1815, Clare early became distinguished for real true piety and Christian charity. The distinct course which she sought was the care and later the education of the poor neglected children of the industrial city of Aachen. Together with her friends, and at the instigation of her brother, Father Andrew Fey, Clare established the first school for the poor in the city. Under the sure and gentle direction of the Holy Spirit, the Congregation grew, and quietly and silently accomplished great things in the souls of Christ’s favorites, the children.
