History
Two women of sincere love for Christ, Renee Burel and Marie Balavenne, under the direction of Dom Jean Ledeuger and Abbe Allenou de la Ville-Angevin, founded the Daughters of the Holy Ghost in Brittany, France in 1706. In 1902 due to the nefarious anti-clerical laws passed in France, which closed many of the schools conducted by the Daughters of the Holy Ghost, the community extended its services of charity to the United States. The Community maintains many houses throughout the United States and Canada. The Daughters of the Holy Ghost also have a mission in French Cameroon, Africa.

Purpose
The Congregation is dedicated to the education of the young, and the care of the sick. They conduct hospitals, homes for the aged, orphanages and nurseries.

Training
The postulancy is a nine-month period of orientation in the religious life. It is followed by the canonical novitiate, a year spent in serious study of the obligations of the religious. The novices then pronounce simple vows annually for three years. These years are devoted to further spiritual formation and professional training. After this they are assigned to some definite work. The sisters pronounce their perpetual vows five years after the canonical novitiate.

• A high school education is preferred
• Age: 16 to 30

Habit
The Sisters wear a white habit habit bound at the waist by a black leather belt from which hangs a rosary.
