History
The Society of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family was founded on May 1, 1880, at St. Joseph’s College in New Brunswick, Canada. Its founders were two religious of the Holy Cross; Mother Camille Lefebvre and Mother Marie-Leonie. The Congregation, which received official approbation of the Holy See on March 2, 1937, since its first foundation in the United States in 1900, has founded establishments in Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, Manchester, and Portland, Maine.Purpose
The general aim of the Society is the sanctification of its members through the threefold vows. Its specific work is an apostolic work—consecrating its services to help the clergy by tending to the domestic needs of colleges, seminaries, episcopal dwellings, and religious communities of priests. There is no distinction among the Sisters—all labor for Christ, according to their particular aptitudes and strength.Qualifications

• Possess good character and a correct judgement.Habit
The sisters wear a black habit and veil; a white guimpe, head band and coif, a silver cross, and a large rosary complete the religious garb.
