History
The Community of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was founded on May 29, 1901, by Mother M. Solana Leczna, Mother M. Hilaria Matz, and Mother M. Earnestine Matz in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to the foundation, and unknown to one another, each had prayed to Our Lady of Perpetual Help for guidance. The infant sisterhood was organized with the ecclesiastical sanction of Archbishop J. Kain of St. Louis.

Purpose
The Sisters sanctify themselves by the practice of the vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience according to their Rule. They conduct grade and high schools. 

Training
In the postulancy of six-months to one year, the postulant is orientated to the Franciscan life. This is followed by a two-year novitiate. In the first year the novice concentrates on her spiritual perfection, The second year novice, in addition to continuing her spiritual development, pursues a liberal arts program designed to prepare her for the apostolate. She pronounces her temporary vows at the end of the second year of novitiate.

Qualifications
• Age: The Maximum age is 30.
• Completion of high school.

Habit
The Sisters wear a brown habit and scapular, a white cincture from which a Franciscan rosary is suspended, a small white collar, and a black veil.
