History
Saint Mary Joseph Rossello founded this congregation in northern Italy, August 10, 1837. Bishop De Mari of Savona, Italy, requested the foundress to organize a community of sisters to educate and care for the neglected and abandoned youth of his diocese.


Purpose
The purpose of the Institute is the Christian instruction and education of the children and youth of any condition, especially the poor and abandoned, and the assistance of the sick in hospitals.


Training
The eight-month postulancy is followed by a two-year novitiate. Temporary vows are made. These are renewed annually for five years after which perpetual vows are pronounced. During the second year of novitiate, the novices continue their education in preparation for the active works of the community.


Qualifications
• Age: 15 to 30.
• Have a desire to glorify God, and work for the salvation of souls.


Habit
The sisters wear a tailored habit of black serge, a black veil, white guimpe, and a Franciscan rosary.
