History
The Daughters of Mary, Health of the Sick were established in 1935 by Rev. Edward F. Garesche, J.S., with the authority of His Eminence, Patrick Cardinal Hayes. At the same time the Cardinal appointed Mother Mary Angela as Superior of the Community. Early in 1936 property was purchased for a motherhouse and Novitiate at Vista Maria, Cragsmoor, New York. The Daughters of Mary, Health of the Sick are foreign Missionary Sisters, dedicated to the special vocation of imitation of our Blessed Mother under her beautiful and ancient title, “Health of the Sick.” As Our Lady is the Health of the Sick both of soul and of body, so the sisters’ apostolate imitates her compassion through religious instruction to bring souls to God and nursing to bring renewed physical help.
