History
The Daughters of Divine Charity was founded by Mother Franciska Lechner in 1868 in Vienna, Austria. “All for God, for the poor, and for our Congregation,” is the papal approved motto this foundress built upon. With these words deeply imbedded, Franciska Lechner set out to help the destitute, particularly, young women and children, so that in caring for the body, the soul may be drawn to God. In 1913, five sisters arrived in New York from Hungary. From this small band, institutions grew in New york, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and California.

Purpose
The principal purpose of the Congregation is to offer honor and glory to God through the three vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience, and the observance of the Holy Rules and Constitution. Their secondary aim is the education of youth, maintain residences for young women, homes for the aged, and orphanages.

Qualifications
• Completion of high school is preferred.
• Age: under the age of 30.

Habit
The sisters wear a black habit, cape and veil, and a white bonnet.
