History
Marie L’Huillierde Villeneuve founded at Paris, in 1640, one of the very first uncloistered Communities of women dedicated to the education of youth and the works of mercy. Using the basis for her Constitutions the Rule given her by St. Francis de Sales, her Spiritual Director, Madame de Villeneuve formulated for her daughters a way of life breathing the charity and gentleness of this holy Doctor.
Purpose
By dedicating themselves entirely to God trough their religious vows, the Daughters of the Cross strive to attain their own personal sanctification. Through spiritual and corporal works of mercy, particularly in the field of Christian Education, they devote themselves to the sanctification of others.
Training
The six-month postulancy is followed by a two-year novitiate. Temporary vows are pronounced for five years after which perpetual vows are made. After first profession the sisters continue their spiritual formation while taking courses toward their professional degrees.
Qualifications
• The maximum age is 35
• Completion of high school
Habit
The sisters wear a black habit, veil, and guimpe, a white headdress and collar, a rosary, and a silver cross.
