History
St. Basil the Great, with his sister, St. Macrina, established the order which bears his name. In 363 A.D., the first monastery was founded on the banks of the River Iris in Asia Minor. Communities of both men and women spread throughout the East and West. The Order of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great, whose Motherhouse has been established in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1921 by Mother Macrina.
